Here's the simple version: your Daytrana patch is a stimulant, and guayusa tea brings its own stimulant punch from caffeine. Stack the two and you're essentially layering one stimulant on top of another. The methylphenidate isn't being broken down differently here; the concern is just that both push your system in the same direction.

What that can feel like is more of the usual stimulant side effects, things like a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or feeling wired. Honestly, this is more of a theoretical, common-sense caution than something proven in studies, and it leans on how much guayusa you drink. A small cup now and then is very different from concentrated supplement doses. If you notice these effects, or you have any heart concerns, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Methylphenidate Transdermal System — available as Daytrana and Methylphenidate Transdermal System — is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in pediatric patients ages 6 to 17 years.

It is not recommended for children under 6, because younger patients had higher drug exposure in the body and a higher rate of side effects such as weight loss compared to older children at the same dose.
