Here's the simple version: the Daytrana patch already pumps a stimulant (methylphenidate) into your body around the clock to help with focus. Ephedra is also a powerful stimulant. Stacking two stimulants doesn't just add their effects, it can pile them on top of each other. That can push your heart rate up, raise your blood pressure, and bring on jitteriness, chest pounding, or trouble sleeping. In rare cases stimulant-on-stimulant combos have been tied to very serious heart and blood pressure events.

I'll be straight with you: this concern is based on the way these drugs work plus scattered case reports, not solid trials. But ephedra is banned in U.S. supplements for good reason. Please don't pair them, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about safer options.

Methylphenidate Transdermal System — available as Daytrana and Methylphenidate Transdermal System — is approved to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in pediatric patients ages 6 to 17 years.

It is not recommended for children under 6, because younger patients had higher drug exposure in the body and a higher rate of side effects such as weight loss compared to older children at the same dose.
