Atorvastatin falls under HMG-CoA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS ("Statins") — the group Inositol Nicotinate interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of inositol nicotinate and statins might increase the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis.
Inositol nicotinate is metabolized to niacin in the body. Some case reports have raised concerns that niacin might increase the risk of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis when combined with statins However, a significantly increased risk of myopathy has not been demonstrated in clinical trials.

Here's the gist for atorvastatin (Lipitor): inositol nicotinate slowly turns into niacin in your body, and niacin combined with a statin has, in a handful of older case reports, been linked to muscle problems. The big concern would be myopathy (unexplained muscle aches, soreness, or weakness) and, very rarely, rhabdomyolysis, where muscle breakdown can stress the kidneys.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's largely theoretical and based on anecdotes, not solid trials, and large studies haven't shown a clear jump in risk. So this isn't a reason to panic. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before pairing the two, and let them know right away if you notice new muscle pain, tenderness, or dark-colored urine.

What Is Atorvastatin Used For?

Brand name: Atorvaliq

Atorvastatin is used alongside a healthy diet to lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, triglycerides (blood fats), and other harmful lipids, while raising HDL ("good") cholesterol. It treats primary hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol), mixed dyslipidemia (mixed abnormal blood fats), hypertriglyceridemia (high triglycerides), and inherited conditions such as heterozygous and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia — including in children aged 10 and older.

Beyond cholesterol control, atorvastatin is used to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, revascularization procedures, and angina (chest pain) in adults with coronary heart disease or multiple risk factors for it — including adults with type 2 diabetes who have risk factors for heart disease even without a confirmed heart disease diagnosis.
