Ip-6 + Misoprostol

Misoprostol brand name: Cytotec.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Ip-6 and Misoprostol in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the label for Misoprostol states a food rule worth keeping to.

Ip-6 and Misoprostol

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Misoprostol and Ip-6 in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Misoprostol

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Misoprostol is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Ip-6 has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate) — and none of Misoprostol’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Misoprostol’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Ip-6. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Misoprostol’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 10 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Hearing loss Worth acting on
  • Pain or burning when passing urine Worth acting on
  • Dehydration Worth acting on
  • Trouble swallowing Worth acting on
  • Bleeding in the gut Worth acting on
  • A heart attack Worth acting on
  • Blood clots Worth acting on
  • Fainting Worth acting on
  • Wheezing Worth acting on
  • An irregular heartbeat Worth acting on

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Misoprostol. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 16,478 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Misoprostol that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Ip-6’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Ip-6 side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Ip-6 has no side effects.

How to take them

Some Misoprostol Products Have a Food Rule — Ip-6 Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Misoprostol says to take it with food. If you take Ip-6 on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Misoprostol with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Misoprostol products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION The recommended adult oral dose of Cytotec for reducing the risk of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers is 200 mcg four times daily with food.

From the Dosage and Administration section of the FDA label we read for Misoprostol — where that label names a specific product, the instruction is that product's. Read the label on DailyMed ›

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Misoprostol page

“Misoprostol (Cytotec) is taken by mouth to protect the stomach lining from ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and all 17 of its recorded supplement interactions come down to the same problem, something in the gut keeping the pill from being absorbed properly. That deserves genuine wariness, because misoprostol that never reaches th…”

About Ip-6

What is Ip-6?

  • Antioxidant support
  • Cancer prevention interest
  • Kidney stone prevention
  • Heart and immune support
  • Reducing excess iron

IP-6 (inositol hexaphosphate, also called phytic acid or phytate) is a natural compound found in high-fiber plant foods and sold as a supplement, often paired with inositol. It is most studied as an antioxidant and mineral binder, but human evidence for its popular uses—such as cancer prevention—is limited and not conclusive. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have low mineral levels or a chronic condition.

Naturally found in whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds; supplements are usually made from rice bran or corn · Capsules, tablets, powders (often combined with inositol)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Ip-6 is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Ip-6 record says about it on its own.

Ip-6: dosing

There is no officially established or standardized dose for IP-6 supplements. Products vary widely, and many combine IP-6 with inositol. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them.

About Misoprostol

What Is Misoprostol Used For?

Brand name: Cytotec

Cytotec (misoprostol) tablets and misoprostol tablets are approved to reduce the risk of gastric ulcers (stomach ulcers) in patients who take NSAIDs — nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or diclofenac — and who are at high risk of ulcer complications. High-risk patients include older adults, people with serious ongoing illnesses, and those with a history of stomach ulcers.

It is important to note that misoprostol has not been shown to reduce the risk of duodenal ulcers (ulcers in the first part of the small intestine) in people taking NSAIDs. It also does not relieve the stomach pain or discomfort that NSAIDs can cause.
