Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Khat interacts with.

Cathinone, a constituent of khat, appears to have sympathomimetic effects and can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, combining khat with other central nervous system (CNS) stimulant drugs might increase the risk of cardiovascular toxicity. Some CNS stimulants include nicotine, cocaine, sympathomimetic amines, and amphetamines.

Here's the simple version. Actifed and similar products contain pseudoephedrine, a decongestant that already nudges up your heart rate and blood pressure on its own. Khat contains cathinone, a stimulant that works a lot like amphetamine and does much the same thing. Stack the two together and you're essentially adding one stimulant on top of another.

The realistic worry here is a racing or pounding heart, a jittery or anxious feeling, trouble sleeping, and a meaningful bump in blood pressure. To be clear, this concern is theoretical, based on how these stimulants behave rather than firm studies. Even so, khat is illegal in the U.S. and risky on its own. Please run this by your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.
