Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Kiwi interacts with.

Clinical research suggests that consuming kiwi reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive individuals. Theoretically, concomitant use of kiwi and antihypertensive drugs may increase the risk of hypotension when used in combination with drugs that lower blood pressure. These include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version: your blood pressure pill, Capozide, already lowers your blood pressure with two ingredients working together (captopril relaxes your vessels, and hydrochlorothiazide flushes out extra fluid and salt). Some research suggests that kiwi itself can nudge blood pressure down a little in people with hypertension. So in theory, piling kiwi on top of your medication could add to that effect and drop your pressure a touch too far.

If that happened, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or woozy when standing up quickly. Honestly, though, this is a theoretical concern, and normal amounts of kiwi as a snack are unlikely to cause trouble for most folks. If you eat kiwi often or notice these symptoms, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
