Why this applies to Mometasone

Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Melatonin interacts with.

Theoretically, melatonin might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Laboratory research shows that certain lots of melatonin inhibit CYP3A4. Theoretically, combined administration of melatonin with certain drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 may reduce the metabolism of these drugs, resulting in increased serum levels. Until more is known, use melatonin cautiously in patients taking drugs metabolized by these enzymes.

Here's some reassuring news if you use mometasone cream or ointment (Elocon) on your skin and take melatonin at night. While mometasone is technically broken down by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and lab studies hint that melatonin might slow that enzyme a little, this concern really applies to medicines that get into your bloodstream in meaningful amounts.

When you rub mometasone on the skin, very little is absorbed into your body, so there's almost nothing for melatonin to affect. This interaction is theoretical and comes only from test-tube research, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you happen to use the inhaled form (Asmanex) or apply it over large areas, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist, but for typical skin use this combination is generally fine.

The evidence is strongest for certain circadian (body-clock) disorders and is more mixed for everyday insomnia. It is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially for children or during pregnancy.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
