Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Cannabidiol (cbd) interacts with.

Cannabidiol may increase levels of drugs that are metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro and animal research shows that cannabidiol inhibits CYP3A4. In human studies and case reports, cannabidiol has been associated with an increase in plasma levels of the CYP3A4 substrates zonisamide, tacrolimus, everolimus, citalopram, midazolam, and methadone.

Here's the good news for this pairing. While CBD can slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme that breaks down many medicines, mometasone is used as a cream, ointment, or inhaler. That means very little of it actually gets into your bloodstream, so even if CBD blocks that enzyme, there isn't much circulating drug for it to act on. For your skin or asthma treatment, a meaningful interaction is unlikely.

The main thing to watch with topical or inhaled steroids is local irritation, and rarely, if a strong product is used heavily over large areas for a long time, body-wide steroid effects. If you use mometasone often or over big areas, it's still worth a quick chat with your pharmacist to be safe.

What Is Mometasone Topical Used For?

Brand names: Elocon, Asmanex

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
