Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's something worth flagging gently. Flupenthixol (Fluanxol) is an antipsychotic used for schizophrenia and sometimes depression, and it isn't actually an immunosuppressant. The interaction on file is really about neem possibly working against medicines that calm the immune system. Since flupenthixol doesn't fit that group, the immune angle described here likely doesn't apply to it the way the database category suggests.

On top of that, this concern is purely theoretical, coming from animal and lab studies rather than people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, because the fit here is uncertain, it's smart to run any neem product by your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since concentrated neem oil can be toxic if swallowed.

About Neem

What is Neem?

Neem
  • Skin conditions
  • Dental and gum health
  • Antimicrobial and antiparasitic
  • Digestive upset
  • Blood sugar support
  • Insect repellent/pesticide

Neem is a tree from India used for centuries in traditional medicine, especially for skin, dental, and antimicrobial purposes. Some small studies are promising for oral health and skin, but high-quality human evidence is limited for most uses. Neem oil and seed extracts can be toxic if swallowed, especially in children, so use with caution and talk to your pharmacist or doctor first.
