ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Hydrochlorothiazide, Triamterene
Hydrochlorothiazide, Triamterene falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Nicotinamide Riboside interacts with.
One small clinical study suggests that nicotinamide riboside can modestly reduce blood pressure in hypertensive patients. However, other clinical research did not find a reduction in blood pressure when compared with control.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: your Maxzide or Dyazide (a combo of hydrochlorothiazide and triamterene) lowers blood pressure by helping your body shed extra fluid. Some early research hints that nicotinamide riboside might nudge blood pressure down a little too. Put them together and, in theory, the two could add up and drop your pressure more than expected.
If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or a bit wobbly when you stand up. But I want to be honest: this is a theoretical concern based on how things work, not a proven problem. The studies are mixed, and any effect looks mild at most. Still, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you already run low or notice dizziness.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Hydrochlorothiazide, Triamterene page
“Hydrochlorothiazide with triamterene (Dyazide, Maxzide) does two delicate jobs at once, pulling fluid off the body while holding on to potassium, and that is exactly where most of these supplements press. The great majority either add to its blood-pressure-lowering and diuretic effects, tipping people toward dizziness and unbalanced po…”

About Nicotinamide Riboside
What is Nicotinamide Riboside?
- Healthy aging
- Boosting cellular energy
- Supporting metabolism
- General wellness
- Athletic recovery
Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is a form of vitamin B3 that the body converts into NAD+, a molecule involved in cellular energy and repair. Early human studies show it can reliably raise NAD+ levels and appears generally well tolerated, but solid evidence that it improves aging, energy, or specific health conditions is still limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting it.
