Nifurtimox brand name: Lampit.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Octopamine and Nifurtimox in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Octopamine and Nifurtimox

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Nifurtimox and Octopamine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Nifurtimox

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Nifurtimox is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Octopamine has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antihypertensive drugs (moderate), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (maois) (moderate) and stimulant drugs (minor) — and none of Nifurtimox’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Octopamine Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Nifurtimox. It is the side-effect record for Octopamine on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Octopamine — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Nifurtimox’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Nifurtimox column appears here.

How to take them

Some Nifurtimox Products Have a Food Rule — Octopamine Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Nifurtimox says to take it with food. If you take Octopamine on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Nifurtimox with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Nifurtimox products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

LAMPIT tablets must be taken with food ( 2.1 ) Dosage of LAMPIT in Pediatric Patients (birth a to less than 18 years of age) (2.2) Body Weight Group Total Daily Dose of nifurtimox (mg/kg) 41 kg or greater 8 to 10 Less than 41 kg 10 to 20 a Term newborn with body weight greater than or equal to 2.5 kg • Administer LAMPIT tablets orally, three times daily with food for

A food rule is not an interaction — it is about how much of the medicine you absorb. The directions that came with your own product, and your pharmacist, outrank anything on this page.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Nifurtimox

This page covers Octopamine only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Nifurtimox page lists 17 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Coffee Charcoal (moderate), European Mandrake (moderate), Glucomannan (moderate) and Guar Gum (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 7 moderate · 9 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Nifurtimox page

“Nifurtimox (Lampit) treats Chagas disease over a course lasting weeks, and it only works if enough of each dose is absorbed, which is why the 17 supplements flagged here call for real vigilance. Every single one can change how oral medications are taken up from the gut.”

About Octopamine

What is Octopamine?

  • Weight loss and fat burning
  • Boosting energy
  • Athletic performance
  • Appetite suppression

Octopamine is a stimulant-like compound found in small amounts in some plants (such as bitter orange) and made naturally in the body. It is marketed mostly in weight-loss and sports supplements, but human evidence that it actually helps with fat loss or performance is very limited. Because it can affect the heart and blood pressure and is banned in some sports, talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Octopamine is a naturally occurring compound; supplement forms are usually synthetic or derived from bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) peel · Capsules, tablets, powders (often in fat-burner and pre-workout blends)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Octopamine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Octopamine record says about it on its own.

Octopamine: dosing

There is no well-established, standardized dose for octopamine as a supplement. It usually appears in combination products, and amounts vary widely from one brand to another. If you choose to use a product containing octopamine, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.
