Nifedipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Octopamine interacts with.

In humans, octopamine 450-600 mg daily increases blood pressure in hypotensive patients. However, evidence from animal research suggests that octopamine can lower blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of octopamine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate and/or reduce the activity of antihypertensive drugs.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the thing about pairing octopamine with nifedipine: nifedipine is doing one job, which is relaxing your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Octopamine is a stimulant-like compound, chemically a cousin of adrenaline, and in people taking around 450 to 600 mg a day it has actually nudged blood pressure up. So it can work against what your nifedipine is trying to do, possibly making your blood pressure or chest pain harder to control.

To be fair, the evidence here is thin and a bit mixed (animal studies even hint it could lower pressure instead), so this is partly theoretical. Still, since it touches your heart and blood pressure, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Don't change your nifedipine on your own.

Nifedipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina (chest pain brought on by physical effort), and vasospastic angina (chest pain caused by spasm of the coronary arteries, sometimes called Prinzmetal's angina). Lowering blood pressure with nifedipine helps reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

The capsule form is approved for vasospastic angina and chronic stable angina only — it is not approved for high blood pressure. The extended-release tablet (including Procardia) covers all three uses: vasospastic angina, chronic stable angina, and high blood pressure.
