Why this applies to Lisinopril

Lisinopril falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Octopamine interacts with.

In humans, octopamine 450-600 mg daily increases blood pressure in hypotensive patients. However, evidence from animal research suggests that octopamine can lower blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of octopamine and antihypertensive drugs might potentiate and/or reduce the activity of antihypertensive drugs.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the thing to know if you take lisinopril for your blood pressure or heart: octopamine is a stimulant that acts on the same adrenaline-type receptors that can tighten blood vessels. In people, higher doses (about 450 to 600 mg a day) have nudged blood pressure up, which could work against your lisinopril and leave your numbers higher than your doctor wants. Oddly, animal studies hint it might sometimes do the opposite, so the picture isn't fully clear.

Either way, this could mean less steady control. Watch for either creeping blood pressure or sudden dizziness and lightheadedness. The evidence here is fairly weak, so don't panic, but please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any octopamine or bitter orange product.

What Is Lisinopril Used For?

Brand names: Zestril, Prinivil, Qbrelis

Lisinopril treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older, and can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The tablet combination product containing lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is specifically indicated for high blood pressure.

Lisinopril is also used as an add-on therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death in people who are hemodynamically stable (have reasonably stable circulation) within 24 hours of an acute heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).
