Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Penbutolol Sulfate
Penbutolol Sulfate falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Octopamine interacts with.
Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the tricky part with octopamine and penbutolol (Levatol). Penbutolol is a beta blocker that lowers your blood pressure and slows your heart rate. Octopamine is a stimulant-like compound that nudges the same 'fight or flight' system, and it can push blood pressure in either direction depending on the situation. So it may either work against your penbutolol (letting your pressure or heart rate creep back up) or, in some cases, add to its effects.
Honestly, the human evidence here is thin and partly theoretical, so I'm not going to alarm you. But because blood pressure control matters and octopamine can stress the heart, I'd check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding any product containing it (like bitter orange supplements). Watch for headache, a racing or pounding heartbeat, or dizziness.

About Octopamine
What is Octopamine?
- Weight loss and fat burning
- Boosting energy
- Athletic performance
- Appetite suppression
Octopamine is a stimulant-like compound found in small amounts in some plants (such as bitter orange) and made naturally in the body. It is marketed mostly in weight-loss and sports supplements, but human evidence that it actually helps with fat loss or performance is very limited. Because it can affect the heart and blood pressure and is banned in some sports, talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it.
