Fluvoxamine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Panax Notoginseng interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Panax notoginseng might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal research shows that administering Panax notoginseng intravenously for 7 days before intraperitoneal injection of caffeine can decrease maximal blood levels of caffeine by 37%. This interaction was attributed to the ability of Panax notoginseng to increase the activity of CYP1A2.

Here's the idea behind this one: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to break down fluvoxamine (Luvox). Lab and animal studies hint that Panax notoginseng may speed up that enzyme, which could clear fluvoxamine out of your system a little faster. Fluvoxamine is not a prodrug, so faster clearance would mean lower levels and possibly less benefit, things like your obsessive thoughts or anxiety creeping back.

I want to be honest though: this is only theoretical, based on animal data with caffeine, not real studies in people taking fluvoxamine. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you're thinking about adding this herb, run it by your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on how well your medication is working.

What Is Fluvoxamine Used For?

Both fluvoxamine maleate tablets and Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) — a condition marked by unwanted, recurring thoughts (obsessions) and/or repetitive behaviors (compulsions) that cause significant distress or interfere with daily life.

Fluvoxamine maleate tablets are approved for adults and for children and adolescents ages 8 to 17. Fluvoxamine Maleate extended-release capsules are approved for adults with OCD; their use in pediatric patients naive to fluvoxamine requires special prescriber consideration regarding the lowest available dose.
