Clomipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Panax Notoginseng interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Panax notoginseng might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal research shows that administering Panax notoginseng intravenously for 7 days before intraperitoneal injection of caffeine can decrease maximal blood levels of caffeine by 37%. This interaction was attributed to the ability of Panax notoginseng to increase the activity of CYP1A2.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help break down clomipramine. Some lab and animal work suggests Panax notoginseng may speed that enzyme up. If that holds true in people, your system could clear clomipramine a little faster, which might lower its blood levels and make it work less well for your OCD symptoms. Clomipramine is a regular (active) drug, not a prodrug, so faster clearance points toward weaker effect, not stronger.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical and based only on animal data with caffeine, not human studies with this medicine. It may not matter much in real life. Before adding this herb, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Clomipramine — sold as Anafranil and under the generic name Clomipramine Hydrochloride — is approved to treat obsessions and compulsions in people with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). This includes adults and children/adolescents ages 10 to 17.

To qualify for treatment, the obsessions or compulsions must cause significant distress, take up a lot of time, or noticeably interfere with work, school, or social life.
