Acetaminophen brand names: Tylenol Ex Strength, Children's Tylenol, Tylenol, Children's Tylenol Meltaways.
Panax Notoginseng has a moderate interaction with Acetaminophen. Theoretically, taking Panax notoginseng might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Acetaminophen
Acetaminophen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Panax Notoginseng interacts with.
Animal research shows that administering Panax notoginseng intravenously for 7 days before intraperitoneal injection of caffeine can decrease maximal blood levels of caffeine by 37%. This interaction was attributed to the ability of Panax notoginseng to increase the activity of CYP1A2.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the basic idea: your body uses an enzyme called CYP1A2 to help process certain drugs, and Panax notoginseng may speed that enzyme up a bit. Since acetaminophen is partly handled by this pathway, the theory is that the herb could clear it a little faster, which might make your Tylenol feel slightly less effective for pain or fever.
I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from animal studies using caffeine, not people taking Tylenol, so it's mostly theoretical. For most folks taking occasional acetaminophen, this isn't something to lose sleep over. Still, if you regularly use both, mention it to your pharmacist so we can keep an eye on whether your pain relief is working as expected.
