Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
PENTOBARBITAL (Nembutal)
Pu-erh tea contains caffeine. Theoretically, caffeine might negate the hypnotic effects of pentobarbital.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Pentobarbital is a barbiturate that calms the brain and is often used to help with sleep or sedation. Pu-erh tea contains caffeine, and caffeine is a stimulant that does the opposite, it wakes the brain up. So drinking pu-erh tea around the time you take pentobarbital could blunt how sleepy or relaxed the medicine makes you feel.
Keep in mind this is mostly a theoretical concern, and it's really about the caffeine, not anything unique to pu-erh. A cup or two probably won't undo the medication, but loading up on caffeine close to bedtime works against a sleep aid anyway. If you take pentobarbital regularly, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor about timing your tea.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pentobarbitone page
“Pentobarbitone is a barbiturate, one of the older and heavier sedatives, and the gap between a dose that helps sleep and one that slows breathing too far is not a generous one. That is why I read this particular list with genuine concern.”
