STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine
Acetaminophen, Dextromethorphan, Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Pu-erh Tea interacts with.
Pu-erh tea contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to watch with these cold and flu combos: the pseudoephedrine piece is a decongestant that already revs up your system. Pu-erh tea brings caffeine to the table, and stacking two stimulants together can pile on. You might notice a jittery feeling, a racing or pounding heart, trouble sleeping, or feeling more wound up and anxious than usual. Some folks also get a bump in blood pressure.
This is mostly common-sense, expert-opinion level concern rather than a hard-proven reaction, so a single cup probably won't cause trouble for most people. Still, if you tend to be sensitive to caffeine or have high blood pressure or a heart condition, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist before pairing them.

“Ephedra is the ingredient to notice first here. Pseudoephedrine, the decongestant in Tylenol Flu, Alka-Seltzer PLUS Flu, and other acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and pseudoephedrine combinations, is itself a stimulant, and 44 entries push the same direction, raising the odds of high blood pressure and a racing heart.”
