Quercetin + Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate
Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate brand name: Konvomep.
Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate falls into 2 drug categories that Quercetin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP2C9 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Quercetin interacts with whole categories of medication. Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Quercetin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate
Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Quercetin interacts with.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking quercetin 500 mg twice daily for 10 days prior to taking diclofenac, a CYP2C9 substrate, increases diclofenac plasma levels by 75% and prolongs the half-life by 32.5%. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar), a substrate of CYP2C9. Furthermore, laboratory research shows that quercetin inhibits CYP2C9.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Konvomep (omeprazole plus sodium bicarbonate). The omeprazole part is handled by a couple of liver enzymes, including CYP2C9. Quercetin, especially in concentrated supplement doses, can gently slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more omeprazole hang around than usual. Practically speaking, that might mean slightly stronger acid-blocking, and over time things like headache, stomach upset, or diarrhea are the side effects I'd watch for.
Honestly, this is mostly theoretical for omeprazole. The real data comes from other CYP2C9 drugs, not this one, and quercetin in everyday foods (apples, onions, tea) is very unlikely to matter. If you're considering high-dose quercetin supplements, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Omeprazole, Sodium Bicarbonate also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.
A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of a single dose of cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), a substrate of CYP3A4. Animal research also shows that pretreatment with quercetin increases plasma levels and prolongs the half-life of losartan (Cozaar) and quetiapine (Seroquel), substrates of CYP3A4. Other laboratory research also shows that quercetin inhibits CYP3A4. However, one clinical study shows that quercetin can increase the metabolism of midazolam, a substrate of CYP3A4, and decrease serum concentrations of midazolam by about 24% in some healthy individuals, suggesting possible induction of CYP3A4.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the practical side of this one. Your Konvomep combines omeprazole (the acid blocker) with sodium bicarbonate (a buffer). Omeprazole is handled mainly by liver enzymes called CYP2C19 and CYP3A4. Quercetin can lightly nudge CYP3A4 activity, so in theory it could shift how much omeprazole stays in your system, possibly affecting how well your heartburn or reflux is controlled or, in the other direction, slightly more side effects like headache or stomach upset.
Honestly, this is mostly lab and animal data, and the human signal is mixed and small, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Food amounts of quercetin are very unlikely to matter. If you're taking concentrated quercetin pills, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

About Quercetin
What is Quercetin?
- Seasonal allergies
- Antioxidant support
- Heart and blood pressure health
- Anti-inflammatory support
- Immune support
- Exercise recovery
Quercetin is a plant flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties found in many common foods and sold as a supplement. While early research is interesting for allergies, blood pressure, and inflammation, strong human evidence is limited for most uses. It is generally well tolerated in food amounts, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking high-dose supplements.
