Buproprion, Dextromethorphan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Auvelity is a combo of dextromethorphan and bupropion, and here's the clever part: the bupropion is included on purpose to block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which keeps dextromethorphan levels up so it can work in the brain. Schizonepeta is thought, based only on lab and animal studies, to block that same CYP2D6 enzyme. So in theory, adding it could push dextromethorphan a bit higher.

If that happened, you might notice more dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, or feeling lightheaded. Honestly though, this is theoretical and not proven in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since this medicine already manipulates that enzyme deliberately, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Schizonepeta.

Buproprion, Dextromethorphan also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the gist with Auvelity (bupropion plus dextromethorphan). The bupropion piece is actually doing double duty here: it purposely blocks an enzyme so the dextromethorphan can build up and work in the brain. Some lab and animal work hints that Schizonepeta might speed up a different liver enzyme (CYP3A4). Bupropion leans more on CYP2B6, so this particular pathway isn't its main exit route.

In plain terms, the theoretical worry is that Schizonepeta could nudge levels of this combo a little lower, possibly softening its effect on mood. This is very weak evidence (test-tube and animal only), so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since bupropion carries a seizure risk, please run any Schizonepeta product past your pharmacist or doctor first.
