Tamoxifen Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Schizonepeta interacts with.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, inhibits cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2D6. Theoretically, schizonepeta might increase the effects and side effects of CYP2D6 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP2D6 include amitriptyline (Elavil), codeine, desipramine (Norpramin), flecainide (Tambocor), haloperidol (Haldol), imipramine (Tofranil), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), ondansetron (Zofran), paroxetine (Paxil), risperidone (Risperdal), tramadol (Ultram), venlafaxine (Effexor), and others.

Here's a wrinkle worth knowing about tamoxifen: it's actually a prodrug. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to convert it into endoxifen, which is the form that does the real work against breast cancer cells. So anything that slows down CYP2D6 could leave you with less of that active form, not more.

Lab and animal studies hint that a compound in Schizonepeta may block CYP2D6. In theory, that could weaken how well tamoxifen protects you, which matters a lot with a cancer medicine. To be fair, this is very early evidence (test tube and animal only), and occasional culinary use likely isn't a big deal. Still, before adding a concentrated Schizonepeta supplement, please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Animal research suggests that schizonepetin, a monoterpene constituent of schizonepeta, induces cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4. Theoretically, schizonepeta might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some substrates of CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others.

Here's the thing about tamoxifen: your liver turns it into its active forms (like endoxifen) before it does its job against breast cancer. So tamoxifen is really a prodrug, and the enzyme CYP3A4 helps process it. Lab and animal studies hint that a compound in Schizonepeta might speed up CYP3A4. In theory, that could shift how tamoxifen is handled, and with a medicine this important, any change in its activated levels is worth taking seriously.

I want to be honest, though: this is only based on animal and test-tube research, not real people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Since tamoxifen is doing such critical work, I wouldn't add Schizonepeta on your own. Please run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first so they can keep your treatment on track.

About Tamoxifen

What Is Tamoxifen Used For?

Brand names: Nolvadex, Soltamox

Tamoxifen is used to treat metastatic breast cancer (breast cancer that has spread) in both women and men, and as adjuvant (after-surgery) therapy for early-stage breast cancer in women. It also reduces the occurrence of cancer in the opposite breast when used as adjuvant therapy.

In women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) — a very early, non-invasive form of breast cancer — tamoxifen is used after breast surgery and radiation to reduce the risk of developing invasive breast cancer. It is also approved to reduce the incidence of breast cancer in women who are at high risk but have not yet been diagnosed. Soltamox (oral solution) is specifically indicated for all of these uses in adult patients.
