Here's the simple version: phenylpropanolamine is itself a stimulant. It revs up your nervous system and can raise your blood pressure and heart rate. Securinega suffruticosa contains an alkaloid called securinine that also stirs up the nervous system by blocking your body's natural calming signals. So you'd be stacking two stimulants on top of each other.

Put together, the worry is that effects pile up: a racing or pounding heart, jitteriness, higher blood pressure, headache, trouble sleeping, and in the worst case, securinine has been linked to seizures. To be honest, this concern is theoretical and based mainly on animal research, not human studies. Still, I would not combine them. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
