STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Pseudoephedrine Sulfate
Pseudoephedrine Sulfate falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Securinega Suffruticosa interacts with.
Securinega suffruticosa contains the alkaloid securinine. Animal research shows that securinine has CNS stimulating effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version. Pseudoephedrine is already a stimulant decongestant. It revs up your system to shrink swollen blood vessels in your nose, but that same push can raise your heart rate, bump up your blood pressure, and leave you feeling jittery, restless, or unable to sleep. Securinega suffruticosa contains securinine, which animal studies suggest also stimulates the nervous system. Stack two stimulants together and those effects can pile up.
This concern is theoretical, based on how the plant behaves in lab and animal research, not on real cases in people. Still, securinine is genuinely risky on its own and can trigger seizures, so I would steer clear of this plant and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing it with anything.

- Fatigue and low energy
- Nerve-related conditions in traditional medicine

- General tonic
Securinega suffruticosa is a shrub used in traditional East Asian medicine, best known for an alkaloid called securinine that strongly stimulates the nervous system. Because securinine is powerful and can cause seizures and serious toxicity, this plant is not a safe or well-studied dietary supplement, and it should not be used for self-treatment. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before considering anything containing this plant.
About Pseudoephedrine
What Is Pseudoephedrine Used For?
Brand names: Drixoral N.D., Afrinol
Pseudoephedrine temporarily relieves nasal congestion and sinus pressure caused by the common cold, hay fever, or other upper respiratory allergies. Most products also relieve sinus congestion and pressure, and help restore easier breathing through the nose.
