Sesame + Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide
Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide brand name: Limbitrol DS.
Sesame has a moderate interaction with Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide. Theoretically, sesame might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide
Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Sesame interacts with.
In vitro, sesame inhibits CYP2C9. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on combining sesame with Limbitrol DS (which pairs amitriptyline, an antidepressant, with chlordiazepoxide, a benzodiazepine). In test-tube studies, sesame compounds appear to mildly block an enzyme called CYP2C9, one of the liver pathways that helps clear these medicines. If that slowing happened in real life, the drugs could build up a little and you might feel more drowsy, dizzy, foggy, dry-mouthed, or constipated than usual.
The important part: this has only been seen in the lab, never in actual people. Normal food amounts of sesame (on a bun, in tahini or hummus) are very unlikely to matter. Concentrated sesame supplements are less certain. If you take those regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide page
“Alcohol is the first thing to know about here. Beer and wine both carry major, well-documented interactions with Amitriptyline and Chlordiazepoxide (Limbitrol DS), because both drugs already slow the central nervous system, and anything sedating layered on top can deepen ordinary drowsiness into something dangerous.”

About Sesame
What is Sesame?
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Blood pressure support
- Source of healthy fats and minerals
- Skin and hair care (topical oil)
- Antioxidant support
- Cooking and nutrition
Sesame is a nutritious seed and oil widely used in cooking and traditional medicine, and it provides healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidant compounds called lignans. Some early research suggests sesame may modestly help with cholesterol and blood pressure, but the evidence is limited. Sesame is also a common, sometimes serious, food allergen, so people with seed allergies should be careful.
