P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Conjugated Estrogens, Methyltestosterone
Conjugated Estrogens, Methyltestosterone falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Sesame interacts with.
In vitro research suggests that sesamin, a constituent of sesame, can inhibit the multi-drug transporter protein, P-glycoprotein. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for your Premarin with Methyltestosterone. A compound in sesame called sesamin has shown, in test-tube studies only, that it can slow down a transporter pump called P-glycoprotein. That pump helps move certain drugs around your body. If it slows, in theory a bit more of a medication could stick around.
Honestly, I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. This is based purely on lab research, never seen in real people, and it's rated minor. If it did matter at all, you might notice slightly stronger hormone effects like breast tenderness, bloating, or mood shifts. Eating sesame in food is very unlikely to do anything. If you're using concentrated sesame supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

About Sesame
What is Sesame?
- Heart and cholesterol health
- Blood pressure support
- Source of healthy fats and minerals
- Skin and hair care (topical oil)
- Antioxidant support
- Cooking and nutrition
Sesame is a nutritious seed and oil widely used in cooking and traditional medicine, and it provides healthy fats, fiber, and antioxidant compounds called lignans. Some early research suggests sesame may modestly help with cholesterol and blood pressure, but the evidence is limited. Sesame is also a common, sometimes serious, food allergen, so people with seed allergies should be careful.
