Olmesartan Medoxomil falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Sesame interacts with.

Taking sesame oil with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical research shows that replacing other cooking oil with sesame oil can lower systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) in patients with or without hypertension. There is also some evidence that sesame oil has additive effects in patients also taking atenolol, nifedipine, and/or hydrochlorothiazide. In patients using nifedipine, using a blend of sesame oil and rice bran oil for cooking reduces both SBP and DBP more than nifedipine alone.

Here's the simple version: olmesartan (Benicar) lowers your blood pressure, and sesame oil may nudge it down a little further. Studies where people swapped their regular cooking oil for sesame oil saw modest drops in blood pressure, and that effect seemed to add to blood pressure medicines. So the concern isn't that sesame changes how olmesartan is broken down. It's that the two together could lower your numbers more than expected.

If your pressure dips too low, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or off-balance, especially when standing up fast. This is theoretical and based mostly on regular cooking-oil use, not a guaranteed problem. A sprinkle of sesame seeds is unlikely to matter. If you cook with sesame oil often or take concentrated supplements, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your readings.

What Is Olmesartan Used For?

Brand names: Olmesartan Medoxomil, Benicar

Olmesartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children aged 6 years and older. It can be used alone or combined with other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.

It is available as Benicar and as generic olmesartan medoxomil tablets, including a combination tablet with hydrochlorothiazide. All of these products are used for high blood pressure.
