Fingolimod falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Spearmint interacts with.

Theoretically, high doses of spearmint might increase the risk of liver damage when taken with hepatotoxic drugs.
Animal research suggests that drinking spearmint tea for 30 days can increase markers of liver damage, including aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and cause liver degeneration and necrosis, in a dose-dependent manner. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the simple version: fingolimod (Gilenya) can be tough on your liver, and your care team usually checks your liver enzymes before and during treatment for that reason. The concern here is just about stacking. In animal studies, very high amounts of spearmint over about a month nudged up liver markers like AST and ALT. The worry is that concentrated spearmint, layered on top of fingolimod, might add a little extra strain to your liver.

This is theoretical and hasn't been seen in people, so don't panic. Enjoying spearmint in food or a cup of tea is very unlikely to be a problem. The caution really applies to strong, daily spearmint supplements. Before starting one, run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can factor it into your routine liver checks.

What Is Fingolimod Used For?

Brand names: Gilenya, Tascenso ODT

Fingolimod — available as capsules (Fingolimod, Fingolimod Hydrochloride, and Gilenya) and as an orally disintegrating tablet (Tascenso ODT) — is approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients 10 years of age and older. This includes clinically isolated syndrome (a first MS episode), relapsing-remitting MS (the most common type with flare-ups and periods of stability), and active secondary progressive MS (a later stage where disability gradually worsens but relapses still occur).

All supported formulations share these same approved uses. The goal of treatment is to reduce the frequency of relapses and slow disease activity.
