Why this applies to Anagrelide

Anagrelide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.

Your body clears anagrelide in part through a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Sulforaphane can tug on that same enzyme, but in two opposite directions. In lab and animal studies it seems to block CYP1A2, which could let anagrelide build up and cause stronger effects like headache, a pounding or fast heartbeat, dizziness, swelling, or low platelets. Its plant precursor, on the other hand, may speed up that enzyme, which could lower anagrelide's effect and let platelet counts creep up.

Here's the reassuring part: none of this has actually been seen in people, so the evidence is weak and mostly theoretical. Eating broccoli is very unlikely to matter. If you're thinking about a concentrated sulforaphane supplement, just run it by your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
