Why this applies to Chlordiazepoxide

Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Sulforaphane interacts with.

Theoretically, sulforaphane might alter the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
Animal and in vitro research shows that sulforaphane inhibits CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, its precursor glucoraphanin also appears to increase the expression of the CYP1A2 enzyme, which could lead to increased metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates. These effects have not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture with broccoli-derived sulforaphane and chlordiazepoxide (Librium). Your body partly relies on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to clear this medication. In lab and animal studies, sulforaphane can pull in two different directions: it may slow that enzyme down, which could let Librium build up a bit (more drowsiness, dizziness, or grogginess), while its precursor may actually speed the enzyme up, which could weaken the drug. So we can't even say which way it would tip.

The big caveat is that none of this has been shown in real people, so it's theoretical. Eating broccoli is very unlikely to matter. Before starting a concentrated sulforaphane supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Chlordiazepoxide Used For?

Brand name: Librium

Chlordiazepoxide hydrochloride capsules are used to manage anxiety disorders or for short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. They are also used to relieve withdrawal symptoms in acute alcoholism, and to reduce apprehension and anxiety before surgery.

Note that everyday stress and tension do not usually require an anxiety medication like this one. Long-term use beyond 4 months has not been well-studied, so your prescriber should periodically check whether it is still the right fit for you.
