HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Moxifloxacin
Moxifloxacin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Sweet Annie interacts with.
There is some concern that Sweet Annie can adversely affect the liver.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: both Sweet Annie and moxifloxacin can, in rare cases, be tough on your liver. The worry is that taking them together might add up and put a little more strain on it. Moxifloxacin isn't a prodrug, so this isn't about one speeding up or slowing down the other. It's just two things that each carry a small liver risk, side by side.
I'll be honest with you, this is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so I don't want you to panic. Still, watch for signs like yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, unusual tiredness, or nausea. If any of those show up, call your doctor. Before combining these, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist.

“The supplement list for moxifloxacin (Avelox), a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, deserves genuine care, and the everyday items are the surprising part. About Sweet Annie
What is Sweet Annie?
- Malaria (traditional)
- Fever
- Inflammation
- Digestive complaints
- Antimicrobial support
- Insect repellent
Sweet Annie (Artemisia annua) is the source of artemisinin, a compound used in prescription antimalarial drugs. While the purified drug is well studied for malaria, the herb itself as a supplement is not proven for the wide range of conditions people use it for, and self-treating malaria with the raw herb is dangerous. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it.
