Naproxen falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Terminalia interacts with.

Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes and reduces CYP2C9 substrate metabolism.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down naproxen and clear it out. Lab studies suggest Terminalia arjuna may slow that same enzyme down. If that happens, naproxen could linger in your system a bit longer than usual, which in theory could nudge up its effects and side effects, things like stomach upset, heartburn, a higher chance of stomach irritation or bleeding, and fluid retention.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's based only on test-tube research, not real people, so it may not amount to much in everyday life. Naproxen isn't a prodrug, so the direction here is more drug effect, not less. Still, if you take both, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor first.

Theoretically, concomitant use of Terminalia arjuna with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding in some patients.
In vitro, Terminalia arjuna bark extract inhibits platelet aggregation, decreases platelet activation, and shows antithrombotic properties.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with naproxen and Terminalia together. Naproxen already nudges up your bleeding risk on its own, because it's an NSAID that affects how your platelets clump and can irritate your stomach lining. Terminalia (especially Terminalia arjuna) appears to do something similar, slowing platelets down. Stack the two and, in theory, you could bleed a little more easily.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based on lab and test-tube studies, not solid human data, so it's a possible concern, not a proven one. Still, watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, dark or bloody stools, or stomach upset. If you notice any of that, or you take naproxen regularly, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Terminalia is a group of traditional Ayurvedic tree species (most notably Terminalia arjuna) used for heart, digestive, and general wellness purposes. Some small studies suggest possible benefits for heart and cholesterol health, but the evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. About Naproxen

What Is Naproxen Used For?

Brand names: Naprosyn, Naprelan, Anaprox, Anaprox DS, Naproxyn, Navalbine, Naproxen, Naprosyn EC, Napro-Na, Aleve, Arthroxen, Synflex, EC-Naprosyn

Naproxen tablets, naproxen sodium tablets, and naproxen oral suspension are used to relieve the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis. They are also used for tendonitis, bursitis, and acute gout, and for managing pain and primary dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps).

Naproxen Sodium Controlled-Release Tablets are indicated for the same conditions plus the relief of mild to moderate pain. Several over-the-counter naproxen sodium products are indicated for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains from headache, backache, muscular aches, toothache, menstrual cramps, minor arthritis pain, and the common cold, and to temporarily reduce fever.
