Trimipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Terminalia interacts with.

Theoretically, use of Terminalia arjuna may increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP2C9 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Terminalia arjuna extract inhibits CYP2C9 enzymes and reduces CYP2C9 substrate metabolism.

Here's the basic idea. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear trimipramine out of your system. Lab research suggests Terminalia arjuna may slow that enzyme down. If that happens in real life, trimipramine could build up a bit more than usual, which may mean stronger effects and more of this drug's typical side effects, like drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness when standing, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube studies, not from people, so we really don't know how much it matters in the body. Still, trimipramine is a medication that deserves respect, so chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Terminalia rather than guessing on your own.

Terminalia is a group of traditional Ayurvedic tree species (most notably Terminalia arjuna) used for heart, digestive, and general wellness purposes. What Is Trimipramine Used For?

Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp

Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.

In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.
