Chlorpheniramine falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja products can contains significant amounts of thujone, a neurotoxin. Theoretically, patients taking drugs that lower the seizure threshold might be at greater risk of seizure if they also take thuja. Advise patients taking these drugs to avoid thuja products. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the concern in plain terms. Concentrated Thuja products can contain thujone, a compound that may make the brain more prone to seizures. Chlorpheniramine, like many older antihistamines, can also slightly lower your seizure threshold, especially at higher doses. Put the two together and, in theory, that risk could add up. This isn't about Thuja changing how your body breaks down chlorpheniramine, it's about both nudging the brain in the same direction.

Honestly, the evidence here is thin and mostly theoretical, based on anecdotes rather than strong studies. For most people taking normal allergy doses, this is unlikely to be a real problem. Still, to play it safe, I'd skip concentrated Thuja while using chlorpheniramine, and check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially if you have a history of seizures.

Chlorpheniramine is used to temporarily relieve common allergy symptoms caused by hay fever (allergic rhinitis) or other upper respiratory allergies. These include runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.

These uses are supported across multiple products — including tablets (such as Aller-chlor, Allergy, Allergy Relief, Allergy Time, Anti Allergy, and Chlorpheniramine Maleate), extended-release tablets (Allergy Relief and Chlorphen-12), the oral solution Ed Chlorped Jr, and the inhalers ClorRelief and ClorRelief KIDs.
