Loracarbef falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Thuja interacts with.

Thuja products can contains significant amounts of thujone, a neurotoxin. Theoretically, patients taking drugs that lower the seizure threshold might be at greater risk of seizure if they also take thuja. Advise patients taking these drugs to avoid thuja products. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the deal with combining thuja and Loracarbef (Lorabid). Loracarbef is a cephalosporin-type antibiotic. Like other antibiotics in this family, it can, on rare occasions, slightly lower the brain's seizure threshold, meaning it makes seizures a little more likely in people who are already prone to them. Thuja products can contain thujone, a compound that in concentrated amounts can be a nerve toxin and may also nudge that threshold lower.

So the worry here is theoretical: putting the two together could add up and raise seizure risk. This is based on weak, anecdotal evidence, not strong studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, to play it safe, it's best to skip concentrated thuja supplements or oil while on this antibiotic. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
