Amlodipine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body clears amlodipine using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Thunder God Vine contains a compound (triptolide) that, in lab studies, appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that effect carried over into people, your amlodipine could be cleared more slowly and build up a bit, which might make its blood-pressure-lowering action stronger than expected.

In practice, that could show up as dizziness, lightheadedness, flushing, headache, or more swelling in your ankles and feet. I want to be honest, though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, not something reported in real patients. Thunder God Vine can be toxic if used incorrectly anyway, so please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

What Is Amlodipine Used For?

Brand name: Norliqva

Amlodipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children aged 6–17 years. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Sdamlo (oral solution) is specifically indicated for hypertension in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older.

Amlodipine also treats coronary artery disease in adults, including chronic stable angina (chest pain with exertion), vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's or variant angina, caused by coronary artery spasms), and documented coronary artery disease in patients without heart failure or significantly reduced heart pumping function.
