Bosentan falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Thunder God Vine interacts with.

Theoretically, thunder god vine might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down bosentan and keep its level steady. Thunder God Vine contains a compound (triptolide) that, in lab dish studies, slowed that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let bosentan build up a bit more than expected, which might mean stronger effects and a higher chance of side effects like headache, flushing, swelling in the legs or ankles, low blood pressure, or changes in liver tests (which bosentan already requires monitoring for).

I want to be honest with you though: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube research, and it has not actually been seen in people. Thunder God Vine can also be toxic on its own, so please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
