In vitro research shows that triptolide, a constituent of thunder god vine, inhibits CYP1A2 enzymes in human microsomes. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for estrogen and Thunder God Vine. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP1A2 to help clear estrogen out of your system. In lab dish studies, a compound in Thunder God Vine called triptolide appears to slow that enzyme down. If that same effect happened in a real person, your estrogen could break down a little more slowly and build up, which in theory could mean more estrogen-related effects like breast tenderness, bloating, nausea, headaches, or spotting.
I want to be honest with you though: this is theoretical. It has only been seen in test tubes, never reported in actual patients, so we don't truly know if it matters. Since Thunder God Vine itself can be risky, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

Inhibitors of CYP3A4 can increase the concentration of triptolide, a thunder god vine constituent, and its derivative (5R)-5-hydroxytriptolide. In vitro research shows that triptolide and (5R)-5-hydroxytriptolide are about 94% and 64% metabolized by CYP3A4, respectively.

Here's the thing to know about this pairing: it's the Thunder God Vine that may build up, not your estrogen. Estrogen can act as a mild blocker of CYP3A4, which is the same liver enzyme that breaks down one of the herb's main active compounds, triptolide. If that breakdown slows, more of the herb can linger in your body, and Thunder God Vine already carries a real risk of toxicity when levels run high.
To be fair, this concern is theoretical and comes from lab studies, not from people taking both together. Still, since this herb can be genuinely toxic, I'd play it safe. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially since Thunder God Vine should only be used under supervision anyway.
