Sorafenib falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Tree Of Heaven interacts with.

Theoretically, tree of heaven extract might reduce platelet aggregation and increase the risk of bleeding if used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs. In vitro evidence shows that tree of heaven crude extract attenuates epinephrine and adenosine diphosphate-induced platelet aggregation. This interaction has not been seen in humans. Until more is known, use with caution in patients taking anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.

Here's the thing to know about combining Tree of Heaven with sorafenib (Nexavar). Sorafenib is a kinase inhibitor used for kidney, liver, and certain thyroid cancers, and one of its own known side effects is a tendency toward easier bleeding and bruising. Tree of Heaven, in lab dish studies only, has shown it might make platelets (the cells that help your blood clot) a little less sticky.

So the concern is simply additive: two things that could each nudge you toward bleeding, used together. I want to be honest though, this is theoretical and based on test-tube work, not real people. Still, with a drug like sorafenib I'd play it safe. Please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding this supplement.

About Sorafenib

What Is Sorafenib Used For?

Brand name: Nexavar

Sorafenib tablets are approved to treat three types of cancer. The first is unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) — liver cancer that cannot be removed with surgery. The second is advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) — kidney cancer that has spread or progressed. Both the brand Nexavar and generic sorafenib tablets are approved for these two uses.

The third use is for locally recurrent or metastatic, progressive differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) — thyroid cancer that has spread or worsened and no longer responds to radioactive iodine treatment. Nexavar and sorafenib tablets are both approved for this use as well.
