Eliglustat falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the thing with Eliglustat (Cerdelga): your body clears it largely through an enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down. When you slow the cleanup crew, the drug can hang around longer and build up to higher levels than expected.

For Eliglustat that matters because higher levels can affect your heart's rhythm (a prolonged QT interval), which is something the manufacturer takes seriously. You might also notice more typical side effects like headache, tiredness, joint pain, or stomach upset. The evidence here is mostly lab and early human data, so this is a precaution rather than a sure thing. Still, don't start tree turmeric without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor, since Eliglustat already has strict rules about CYP3A4 blockers.

About Eliglustat

What Is Eliglustat Used For?

Brand name: Cerdelga

Cerdelga (eliglustat) is used for the long-term treatment of Gaucher disease type 1 in adults. Gaucher disease type 1 is a genetic condition in which a fatty substance called glucosylceramide builds up in organs like the liver, spleen, and bone marrow, causing them to enlarge and leading to problems like anemia and low platelet counts.

Cerdelga is only appropriate for adults whose bodies process the drug in a predictable way — specifically those identified as CYP2D6 extensive metabolizers (EMs), intermediate metabolizers (IMs), or poor metabolizers (PMs) by an FDA-cleared genetic test. People who are CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolizers may not reach drug levels high enough to benefit, and Cerdelga is not recommended for them.
