Tree Turmeric + Oxycodone
Oxycodone brand names: OxyContin, Roxicodone, OxyIR, Percolone, Oxecta, and others.
Oxycodone falls into 2 drug categories that Tree Turmeric can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, use of tree turmeric along with CNS depressants might increase the risk of additive therapeutic and adverse effects.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Tree Turmeric interacts with whole categories of medication. Oxycodone falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Tree Turmeric in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CNS DEPRESSANTS
1 of 2Why this applies to Oxycodone
Oxycodone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can have sedative effects.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: oxycodone is a strong opioid pain reliever that already slows down your brain and body, causing things like drowsiness, foggy thinking, and slower breathing. Tree turmeric (and its main ingredient, berberine) has shown sedative effects in animal studies, so the worry is that pairing the two could stack those calming effects on top of each other.
If that happened, you might feel sleepier, dizzier, or more out of it than oxycodone alone would cause. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from lab and animal research, not solid human studies, so it's largely theoretical. Still, since oxycodone is powerful, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding tree turmeric so they can weigh it for you.

CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Oxycodone also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit CYP2D6.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist: the berberine in tree turmeric may gently block an enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the routes your body uses to process oxycodone. When that pathway slows down, a bit more oxycodone can linger in your system than expected.
In real-world terms, that could mean stronger opioid effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, or slowed breathing if it stacks up too much. That said, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on early, lower-quality evidence, so it may never cause a noticeable problem for you. Still, because oxycodone is a potent pain medicine, I wouldn't start a berberine or tree turmeric supplement without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Oxycodone page
“Oxycodone is a potent opioid painkiller, and anything that deepens its sedation can slow breathing itself, which is why this list deserves genuine respect. Of the 145 supplement and herbal ingredients on record, eight rate major, and the biggest cluster by far, 78 ingredients, adds extra drowsiness on top of the opioid's own.”

About Tree Turmeric
What is Tree Turmeric?
- Blood sugar support
- High cholesterol
- Digestive complaints
- Skin and eye conditions
- Antimicrobial uses
- Liver support
Tree turmeric (Berberis aristata) is a shrub used in traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine, valued mainly for its berberine content. Early research suggests possible benefits for blood sugar and cholesterol, but high-quality human evidence is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
About Oxycodone
What Is Oxycodone Used For?
Brand names: OxyContin, Roxicodone, OxyIR, Percolone, Oxecta, OxyNeo
Oxycodone treats pain that is severe enough to need an opioid pain medicine, when other treatments are not enough. Other options include non-opioid pain relievers or opioid combination products.
Some products are for specific situations. Extended-release products (OxyContin, Xtampza ER, and oxycodone extended-release tablets) are for severe, persistent pain that needs daily, around-the-clock treatment. They are not for as-needed use. The 100 mg per 5 mL (20 mg/mL) oral solution is only for opioid-tolerant patients. Oxaydo is labeled for acute and chronic pain.
