Here's the simple version. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear mirtazapine (Remeron) out of your system. The berberine in tree turmeric can slow that enzyme down. When the cleanup crew works slower, a bit more mirtazapine can hang around, which may turn up its usual effects.

For mirtazapine that often means more drowsiness, grogginess, dizziness, increased appetite, or weight gain. The good news: this is mostly theoretical and based on lab work plus some early human data, so it isn't a sure thing, and small food amounts of turmeric spice aren't the concern here (concentrated berberine supplements are). Still, before you pair them, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how you feel.

Here's the gist for these two together. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear mirtazapine. The berberine in tree turmeric can moderately slow that enzyme down, so mirtazapine may not break down as fast and could build up a bit more than usual. Mirtazapine isn't a prodrug, so more drug hanging around means a stronger effect.

In plain terms, that could mean more of mirtazapine's usual stuff: extra drowsiness, increased appetite or weight gain, dizziness, or feeling groggy in the morning. It's not a dangerous combo for most people, but it's worth a heads-up. Before adding tree turmeric, check in with your pharmacist or doctor, especially if you already feel very sleepy on your current dose.

What Is Mirtazapine Used For?

Brand name: Remeron

Mirtazapine tablets, mirtazapine orally disintegrating tablets, Remeron, and RemeronsолTab are all indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults. Major depressive disorder involves a persistently low or sad mood most days, often accompanied by loss of interest, sleep changes, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

The effectiveness of mirtazapine tablets in maintaining a response for up to 40 weeks after an initial treatment period has also been demonstrated. Patients should be reassessed periodically to determine whether continued treatment is needed.
