Tree Turmeric + Everolimus
Everolimus brand names: Certican, Afinitor, Zortress, Afinitor Disperz.
Tree Turmeric has a moderate interaction with Everolimus. Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Everolimus
Everolimus falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know if you're taking everolimus (Afinitor or Zortress) and thinking about tree turmeric. Your liver clears everolimus mainly through an enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down, which means everolimus could clear more slowly and build up higher in your blood than expected.
Everolimus is an active cancer and transplant medicine (not a prodrug), so more of it in your system can mean stronger effects and more side effects. Think mouth sores, low blood counts, infections, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol. Because the safe dosing window for this drug is fairly narrow, even modest changes matter. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Loop in your oncologist, transplant team, or pharmacist first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Everolimus page
“Everolimus (Afinitor, Zortress, Certican) has to stay in a narrow blood-level window, whether you take it after an organ transplant or for cancer, so treat this supplement list with real caution. Most of its 156 interacting ingredients can push those levels up or down, mainly by changing how the CYP3A4 enzyme breaks the drug down.”

Tree turmeric (Berberis aristata) is a shrub used in traditional Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine, valued mainly for its berberine content.
