Here's the basic idea: the berberine in tree turmeric may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear formoterol. Formoterol is an active medication (not a prodrug), so if its breakdown is partly blocked, a little more of it could linger in your system and its effects could be slightly stronger than usual.

With formoterol, that could mean more of its typical side effects, like a fast or pounding heartbeat, shakiness or tremor, a headache, or feeling jittery. Honestly though, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on lab work and limited human data, so for most people it's not a major worry. Still, it's worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor before adding a berberine supplement, especially if you already notice your heart racing.

Here's the gist: your inhaled formoterol relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to get cleared from your body. Berberine, the active ingredient in tree turmeric, may slow that enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more formoterol linger, nudging its effects up.

For a long-acting beta agonist like this, more drug in the system can mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, shakiness or tremor in your hands, jitteriness, or a headache. Honestly though, this is mostly a theoretical concern backed by weak evidence, and inhaled doses are small. Still, if you'd like to try tree turmeric, run it past your pharmacist or doctor first and watch for those symptoms.

What Is Formoterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Foradil Aerolizer, Atimos Modulite, Oxis Turbohaler, Perforomist, Foradil Certihaler

Formoterol fumarate inhalation solution is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of airway narrowing (bronchoconstriction) in adults with COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is taken twice daily — morning and evening — as a regular, ongoing treatment.

Important limits: This medication is not for relieving sudden COPD flare-ups or breathlessness in the moment, and it is not approved to treat asthma. A separate short-acting inhaler should always be on hand for sudden symptoms.
