Lumateperone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear lumateperone (Caplyta) out of your system. The berberine in tree turmeric can moderately slow that enzyme down. When that happens, lumateperone tends to linger longer and build up, which can make its effects and side effects stronger.

For lumateperone, that could mean more drowsiness or sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling sluggish. Most of this is based on lab and early human data rather than studies pairing these two directly, so think of it as a real but not alarming concern. Food-amount turmeric in cooking is unlikely to matter, but concentrated berberine supplements are different. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Lumateperone Used For?

Brand name: Caplyta

Caplyta (lumateperone) is approved for adults with schizophrenia, depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder (bipolar depression), and as an add-on treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).

For bipolar depression, Caplyta can be used on its own or alongside lithium or valproate. For MDD, Caplyta is used together with an antidepressant — not on its own as a standalone antidepressant.
