Fruquintinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Tree Turmeric interacts with.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs that are substrates of CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, moderately inhibits CYP3A4.

Here's the short version: fruquintinib (Fruzaqla) is cleared from your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The berberine in tree turmeric appears to slow that enzyme down, so your body may not break the drug down as quickly. In practice, that means fruquintinib could build up and hit harder than intended.

Because fruquintinib is a cancer medicine with real side effects, more of it in your system can mean worse high blood pressure, bleeding or bruising, mouth sores, diarrhea, fatigue, and hand-foot skin reactions. The lab and early human data point toward a moderate effect, so this isn't just theory. Please don't add or stop tree turmeric on your own. Talk with your oncology team or pharmacist first so they can keep you safe.

What Is Fruquintinib Used For?

Brand name: Fruzaqla

Fruzaqla (fruquintinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) — colorectal cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It is specifically for patients who have already been treated with several standard chemotherapy regimens and other targeted therapies.

Fruzaqla is intended for patients who have previously received fluoropyrimidine-, oxaliplatin-, and irinotecan-based chemotherapy, an anti-VEGF therapy, and — if their tumor is RAS wild-type and it is medically appropriate — an anti-EGFR therapy.
