Here's the simple version: the ibuprofen part of Dristan is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Berberine, the active compound in tree turmeric, may slow that enzyme down a bit. If ibuprofen is broken down more slowly, it can hang around longer and build up, which could nudge up the usual ibuprofen side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, or, with regular use, a higher chance of stomach irritation or kidney strain.

I want to be honest about the evidence though, this is mostly theoretical and based on early, lower-quality research, so it may not amount to much in real life. The pseudoephedrine part isn't really affected here. Before pairing tree turmeric with this product, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, tree turmeric might have additive effects when used with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs and increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research suggest that berberine, a constituent of tree turmeric, can inhibit platelet aggregation.

Here's the thing to keep an eye on with this combo. The ibuprofen part of Dristan already has a mild blood-thinning effect of its own, since it can make platelets a little less sticky and can irritate the stomach lining. Tree turmeric (through its berberine) may nudge in the same direction, so in theory the two together could add up and raise your chance of bleeding or bruising.

Honestly though, this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not from people, so the real-world risk is uncertain and likely small for short-term use. Still, watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, dark stools, or stomach upset. If you take ibuprofen often or use blood thinners, check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with a berberine supplement.
