Captopril, Hydrochlorothiazide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Uzara interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of potassium-depleting diuretics and uzara can increase the risk of cardiac glycoside toxicity due to potassium depletion. Some diuretics that can deplete potassium include chlorothiazide (Diuril), chlorthalidone (Thalitone), furosemide (Lasix), hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ, Hydrodiuril, Microzide), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this combo. The hydrochlorothiazide half of your Capozide is a water pill, and one of its known effects is to lower your body's potassium over time. Uzara root naturally contains heart-acting compounds called cardiac glycosides, similar to digoxin-type medicines. When potassium runs low, the heart becomes more sensitive to those glycosides, which in theory could raise the risk of heart rhythm problems, nausea, or feeling faint.

I'll be honest, this concern is theoretical and based on how these substances work, not on strong real-world reports. Captopril itself isn't a prodrug here, so the worry is really about the diuretic and potassium. Since Uzara also affects the heart, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
