ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Procainamide
Procainamide falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Wild Lettuce interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for procainamide: this heart rhythm medication has its own mild anticholinergic, or drying, properties. Wild lettuce may carry tiny amounts of an anticholinergic compound too, though the evidence on that is shaky and based mostly on a few case reports in people who took large amounts.
The concern isn't that wild lettuce changes how your body clears procainamide. It's simply that two things with drying effects can add up. You might notice more dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dizziness, or trouble urinating. Since procainamide is a narrow-margin heart drug, I'd keep things steady and run wild lettuce past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two. Don't change your procainamide on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Procainamide page
“Procainamide treats serious heart rhythm problems, and anything that nudges the heart's electrical timing further can turn a helpful drug into a hazard, so I would give this list genuine care. Nine of the 59 supplements on file carry a major rating, and the 13 QT prolongers are the ones to understand first.”

About Wild Lettuce
What is Wild Lettuce?
- Insomnia and trouble sleeping
- Anxiety and restlessness
- Pain relief
- Cough and respiratory symptoms
- Muscle spasms
Wild lettuce is a traditional herb used mainly for sleep, anxiety, and pain, but solid human research supporting these uses is very limited. Because its safety is not well studied, it should be used cautiously, avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and discussed with your pharmacist or doctor first.
About Procainamide
What Is Procainamide Used For?
Brand names: Pronestyl, Procanbid, Procan SR, Procan, Pronestyl-SR
Procainamide hydrochloride injection is used to treat documented, life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias — most notably sustained ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm originating in the lower chambers of the heart). Because of its serious risk profile, it is reserved for situations where the benefit clearly outweighs the risk.
Procainamide is not recommended for minor or asymptomatic arrhythmias, and treatment should always be started in a hospital setting where close monitoring is possible. Antiarrhythmic drugs, including procainamide, have not been shown to improve survival in patients with arrhythmias that are not life-threatening.
