Here's the thing to keep in mind: morphine already slows down your brain and nervous system to ease pain. Wild lettuce is a traditional calming herb, and in lab and animal studies its compounds (lactucin and lactucopicrin) have shown sedative effects. So the worry here isn't about morphine being broken down differently, it's that two calming things can stack on top of each other.

If you take them together, you might feel more drowsy, dizzy, foggy, or short of breath than morphine causes alone. That said, this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not on strong human studies. Morphine is serious medicine, so please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding wild lettuce, and never adjust your morphine on your own.

Morphine is used to manage acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) pain that is severe enough to need an opioid and that hasn't been adequately treated by other options. The higher-concentration liquid form is reserved for adults who are already opioid-tolerant — meaning their body is used to opioid medications.

Because of real risks of addiction, misuse, and overdose, morphine is only prescribed when other pain treatments have not worked or are not expected to work. It is not intended for long-term use unless the pain continues to be severe and no alternatives are suitable.
